OverviewImage of child reading

The University of Canterbury Child Language Centre conducts research on children's speech and language development and related abilities. Our current focus is on preschool and school-age children and what causes some of them to have difficulty in learning to talk.

We also provide research training to postgraduate students at the Master's and PhD levels and to undergraduate students who are in their final year of study.

Our home academic department is the Department of Communication Disorders and we are members of the New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain & Behaviour.
