Overview: degrees offered by Communication Disorders

The Department of Communication Disorders offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the following areas.

The Bachelor of Speech and Language Pathology with Honours (BSLP(Hons)) is a 4-year undergraduate degree programme consisting of an intermediate year and 3 professional years, enabling graduates to practice as a Speech-Language Therapist in New Zealand. The degree programme is accredited by the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists Association (NZSTA).

The Master of Science (MSc) in Speech and Language Sciences is a 1-year postgraduate degree programme intended for Speech and Language Therapists, and graduates from related disciplines, wishing to pursue research at a postgraduate level.

The Master of Audiology (MAud) is a 2-year postgraduate degree programme that qualifies graduates to practice as an Audiologist in New Zealand. The degree programme is endorsed by the New Zealand Audiological Society (NZAS).

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a 3-year postgraduate research degree programme that enables students with prior research experience to pursue doctoral-level research in most areas of speech, language, swallowing and hearing science, and disorders.
